From the East

Brothers:  Tropical Lodge continues to attract a new generation of young Masons and we are delighted to welcome our new Brothers into the greatest fraternity known to man. A recent petitioner told me person-ally he was motivated to join by the historic reputation of Freemasons of "looking after each other". What more succinct phrase could describe one Brother's affection for, and commitment to, his fellow Masons? When a hereto-fore little known, rural Lodge in Georgia requests Tropical to demonstrate the Second Section of the Master Mason degree, we respond with alacrity. When the Moore Haven Lodge asks for help to fill chairs to avert a shutdown, Tropical members respond by taking dual memberships and attending their Lodge meetings. When LaBelle Lodge needs experienced ritualist to perform the Master Mason degree 2nd Section, Tropical responds and fills all their vacancies. When a well-known Brother and active member of several Appendant bodies (but not a member of Tropical) takes ill and needs care, Tropical's Brothers join the line of those attending to the ailing Mason's needs. Many of Tropical's members are also Shiners and regular drivers of the Shrine vans carrying children to the hospital in Tampa - accounting for hundreds of man-hours each year in service to those less fortunate.

My Brothers, this is what Freemasonry is really all about - and Tropical Lodge can be proud of living up to its "obligations". Spread the Word!!! It's the easi-est and cheapest form of recruitment.

Cordial & Fraternal Regards,

Dick Nelson

Worshipful Master

Building News

It’s just about time to come see for yourself. The building remains under heavy construction. However, begin-ning next month we will be doing some ―Friday Cookouts from 3:30 until done. Friends and family are welcome as long as the food lasts.

DOWNTOWN BLOCK PARTY FOR CHIL-DRENS CHARITIES will be held on June 25 at 4:00 to 10:30PM at Dean Street. We will be there with the Antique Car Show with live entertainment and auction items. We all know the charities this event benefits. Families, guest, and kids are more than welcome.

Fraternally,

Ted Connally

Report to the Brethren on Road Trip Progress:

Report to the brethren – 2

This evening, 28 April, I attended the regular, stated communication of Ringgold Lodge # 90 in their Hall on Jackson Rd. in Spalding County GA. The evening started with a dinner of Kentucky Burgoo, Cornbread and Peach Cobbler which I supplied as a favor to the Jr. Warden., and part of the discussion of the relative virtues of Burgoo as opposed to Brunswick Stew. Only made about 30 quarts and it was almost all gone.

Dinner conversation centered around the tornado damage in the county after last night’s storms. There was no damage to the lodge and, to our knowledge, no brother either injured or suffering severe damage. Others in the county were not so lucky.

Their DDGM attended the meeting and will be at-tending the June 11 demo. He is publicizing the demo throughout the 6th district and Ringgold is ex-pecting a full house. A discussion of how to fit extra chairs in the lodge room followed

The decision was made to start the 1st section at 1700 on the 11th followed by a dinner of home made Bar-B-Q, Brunswick stew, smoked ham and cole slaw. We will be on after dinner for the 2nd section and the lecture. Ladies will be invited to the dinner but, of course, not to the degree work. If any ladies from Tropical make the trip, plans will be made to wel-come them.

Once we establish what the brethren want to do on Fri & Sat, Barbara and I are planning to host a GA breakfast either Fri or Sat am. We are leaning to have it as more of a ―Brunch at noon or so on Sat, leaving room for a practice and maybe a chance to rest and get cleaned up before the degree.

Ringgold #90 will be practicing every week between now and the Tropical visit; they want their GA de-gree work to be perfect.

A motion was made and passed to complete the stump removal and landscaping on the W side of the lodge before the Tropical visit. They may even have a work day and paint the building.

Respectfully submitted,

Ben Flynn, PM

Editor’s note: As this is written, travel arrangements are still pending.

IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER

The first meeting in June is cancelled due to Grand Lodge.  The Officers and several members are attending.

The second meeting in June will be significant not only for Degree Work but also to report on Grand Lodge legislation.

Expect a vote at any meeting in May, June or July on the purchase of a new Lodge  Building.
